Will it work to use HDMI for audio only?
I have a blu-ray player (lots of recent questions about that!) and my TV does not have HDMI input. I know that my player will output from all jacks at once. I also know that my receiver can decode bit-streams of the new HD audio formats. However, I guess it is not allowed to down-convert HDMI to come out of another jack.
My question is: Will the player send the audio stream to the receiver even though there is no TV on down the line to send video to?
Before I buy an HDMI cable and find that it doesn’t work and I can’t use it until I get an HDTV, I am asking now. It is the Samsung BD-P1600 player and Pioneer Elite VSX-91txh receiver, by the way.
There is no information I could find as most people who have HDMI receivers probably have an HDTV too…
I looked at the manuals again and can not find information on it, but I am assuming it will work fine. Any information I did find seemed to show that it will work just fine.
Thanks to answers
It should work. I have an Onkyo 905, and it will handle audio over HDMI even when I don’t have the TV on.
