The Journey of a Lifetime

"Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature’s peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn’s leaves."
                                                                                                                                                --John Muir

Welcome to my 2007 Appalachian Trail thru-hike! Now that the walk is over and I’m back home again, we’ve updated the site with new information, links, and pictures to tell you the story of my journey along the trail and to provide help to any of you who are contemplating a hike of your own. John Muir said it best. There are good tidings and deep peace awaiting you along that path from Georgia to Maine. If you are thinking of a hike and need advice, please feel free to email me.

Or maybe you are wondering why anyone would attempt a thru-hike in the first place.  I mean, after all, why leave friends and family for six months, miss out on a steady paycheck, endure blisters and rainy days, and do nothing but walk day after day?  Was this some kind of whacked out midlife crisis? Well, maybe.  But I prefer to think of it as answering the call to adventure, the realization of a longtime dream, which may actually be what a midlife crisis is all about in the end...those unanswered invitations from the universe to experience something deeper.

Anyway, cheers to you as you visit here.  I hope this site will inspire you to check in with your own dreams.  In the words of Mary Oliver, "Tell me, what do you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?" It might not resemble my dream of hiking the Appalachian Trail, but whatever it may be, I hope today you start answering the universe's invitation. You won't regret it.
